Gorillas and The Forests
Behind the cause
The Chantecaille’s trip to the Congo in the winter of 2016 gave them a firsthand view of the destruction of the forests which the mountain gorillas call home. There are less than 850 mountain gorillas remaining the world—these dwindling numbers are largely due to deforestation. The burning of woodlands to create massive plantations to make way for relentless plantings of soy, palm oil and cattle grazing grounds not only eliminates the natural habitats of countless species of animals, it also displaces and destroys the livelihood of the local populations.
